The amount of money Sony would have to spend moneyhatting GTA; AC & CoD (and make no mistakes about it, at this point in the game they'd have to pay for the development of those games) probably wouldn't even return enough back from the extra sales they'd gain. Yes, absolutely no doubt those games would help, but 3DS isn't exactly blowing the roof off despite a $99 console with Pokemon and Zelda; so Vita would have no chance. And Sony have made it abundantly clear that any money they do have for developing/moneyhatting is going towards PS4. It can survive as a handheld FIFA machine in Europe and an Otaku machine in Japan. My only hope is that mild successes in those two markets convince Sony & third parties to keep pumping out games for the console for another few years (and that the Japanese games keep getting localized). That's not to say I wouldn't like a handheld GTA, though. Vice City Stories is one of my favourite PSP games. |
There is a world outside of NA, you know. And if they just re-use the assets they already have, this game will no doubt be profitable. They can just use the stuff they have for both GTA 4 and GTA 5 to make two games and there is no doubt they'd be the best selling games on the console. Getting a new AC shouldn't be that expensive either, they already have the engine in place, so now it just needs a bit of optimisation to squeeze the extra 5 fps and you can make the game on the cheap as a spin-off, again using resources from the mainline game from PS3. CoD would be just a port, no chance for an exclusive game and a port would easily be financially viable and I actually totally expect a CoD next year without any moneyhatting. It would even be a good idea to make a Vita port instead of a Wii U one, would surely make them more money.
Sony has to be smart and maximize what they can get with minimum costs, I really believe they can pump out great games with limited budgets. They should make a KZ:M2 soon, using the engine and assets. They could even use it to make a different game. This also counts for 3rd parties, which Sony should convince to start developing such spin-off titles, just like recently was the case with Batman.
And again, where are all these games:

Why haven't we got games on UE3, if it's been ready so long ago? And where is a Bethesda game? :/ Damn, what I'd do for a wRPG with graphics like in this video...
Sony should really make one last big push for the West with a bunch of big 1st party games and such smartly inspired big 3rd party titles.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
