Hello everyone,

I've been thinking about the prices of the Handhelds and Home consoles and its impact on the consumer purchase. In this price battle, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft following differently.

Nintendo always trying to make less powerful hardware like a one generation behind everytime both in Handheld and Home console. They are not taking advantage of the technology to create more new innnovative games and help developers to ease their efforts, instead they are using cheap price advantage and its Old IP's to sell their Handheld and Home console to earn more profits in hardware and Games but they are making development of games for 3rd party developers hard. So, nintendo made their handheld and home console is nintendo only box to play games mostly and they succeeded in 3DS due to less competition in price(just 100-170$) and their kind of games(IP's, art and graphics) attracting kids and casuals mostly where Vita is about Home console quality games for hardcore gamers. But, Nintendo failing in home console because of strong competition and the graphics needed for home console games are not possible to Nintendo and 3rd party games not selling well.

Sony always try to create powerful hardware both in handheld and Home console. They make use of technology to create more new innovative games and help the developers to ease their development(they failed with PS3 only due to different architecture). They provide more value to the price and create more IP's. This is why sony is doing great with home consoles now with PS4 and did great with PS1,PS2 and PS3(slowly). Sony is weak in Handhelds due to most of the gamers used to the Nintendo IP's and its games from their handheld. They don't want console quality games and fine with the graphics from Nintendo handhelds at 240p resolution on the go.

Microsoft try to create powerful enough hardware and make use of the technology to create new games. They did great with Xbox360 as Game machine but now they also chasing casuals and non-gamers using Kinect and TV integration with less focus on new IP's innovation. They followed cheap price in Xbox 360 but xbox one providing more value to the price.

Sony always providing more value to the price and powerful hardware. Nintendo alwasy providing cheap price and less powerful hardware. Microsoft is tried to provide powerful enough hardware both times but xbox360 was cheap in price and xbox one providing more value to the price.

I think the price of the console is the most importanat deciding factor next to games library in consumer purchase. So, even though the system has great games but the price is high then it won't sell in huge  and just do enough sales only. 3DS beast sales are only because of its prices and less competition in the handheld market because nobody is making similar games(art, graphics) and I don't think it can have sales like this if the price is 250/200$.

What do you think about the price and its sales impact? Who do you think is better in making using of the technology very well and creating games?
