I say: if it will help cure the fear, drink once or twice, but it is never a good thing to rely on this to get courage. However, read his posts, he needs to get this handled, fast. You say: he need the right girl, and I agree, but being afraid of women makes him the wrong guy. First he get his shit  together, then he will be ready for the right girl.
