You're wrong, the series only went downhill with God of War: Ascension and that was only because of multiplayer. Both portable games are often said to be among the best games on PSP and GoW III is often said the be one of the best games last gen and the best in the series with more fans than any other PS3 exclusive on Facebook by light-years.

More people want God of War IV than any other Sony exclusive looking at the sheer amount of views all these fake trailers have, with Cory Barlog back and God of War: Ascension teaching SSM that multiplayer isn't what the franchise needs I'm confident that the new GoW on PS4 will not only rank up there with the trilogy but be the best in the series yet.

And yes, God of War IV will probably make some people vomit.

Well.. I am not looking in terms of Metascore... God of War 3 was the first God of War for the ps3... There are many reasons why it had a great metascore since it is the first game of the series in a new platform at the time... I just didn't think it was that much of a great game by comparasion... The graphics looked amazing but everything else was just same old for me... But thats only my take on it... Nothing more
