The next biggest issue is how slow and sparse game localization is; if you look at this reccommended game list, you can see there are 45+ Japan only games being reccommended. Not all of them would be super popular here, but 10 or so of them would make the Vita more applealing to many PSP gamers who have yet to buy a Vita.

Yea, it is peculiar.
The scary part is that each person claiming Vita has no games is part of a culture of writing things off due to lack of advertisement.
All this information is publicly available, but if it isn't advertised, then (for some reason) our internet cultured brains to just sort of write it off as having no games...
The problem actually goes further if you inspect at how critical thinking, proactive effort, articulation of morals/intent/etc. have gradually declined in the expanding "westernized" world, but that is another topic all on its own.
