As I was mentioning in the other thread, sony not focusing on the Vita (since it has been disrupted by cell phones) is probably the best thing they did the past 12-18 months. It may sound bad on the surface but Sony has been a champion in home consoles, and they needed to keep that trend going. Trying to fight step /step with Nintendo would have been a losing effort as it took focus away from the PS4. Now with Nintendo you see them struggling on all fronts:
Nintendo franchises decline/fatigue in their biggest market
Nintendo baking on said franchises to help the Wii U during its time to turnaround the 3DS, fell right on its face.
2DS despite being cheaper failing to have an significant impact on overall 3DS sales
Nintendo is still no where near their original estimate for Wii U sales of 5.5 million
Black Friday is not the end all be all but is an important gauge for the rest of the year and next year and its like deja vu all over again.
Sony meanwhile can go to developers with these PS4 numbers and say hey, people are buying software, hardware just develop and the customers will come.
