We aren't 'letting' them die. One thing people don't realize, is that aid isn't as simple as writing a check. I personally, ive to multiple charitable organizations, but they have to be carefully selected. If you give money to many of these 3rd world countries, they will spend it on weapons and luxuries for the ruling class. If you attempt to give food/basic supplies to people, warlords can roll in and steal it - sometimes killing people in the process. The fact is, many of these situations could not be fixed without rolling in the military and running the entire show - which is of course not an option.
So it means not feeding those people isn't murder. Obviously it's a terrible tragedy, but what can be done is limited, and it's not simply a problem that can be fixed.
In the company I worked for, everyone chipped in and hired a very good charity to build a well and water purification system in a village in Nicaragua that had no clean water. A great charity company, a great goal, and we achieved the funding we needed. But you put the same money into sending food to kids in africa, and no kids get fed, just some local guerillas have more resources.
So in a nutshell, our moral obligations are to do what we can, but we're not responsible if we cant' fix everything.
