I'd say the wii console it's self is last gen and that's based on the old tech it's using, but at the same time I'd say the controls are next gen. |
I'd say the control is unique, I personally don't think it's 'perfec' or 'precise' enough to be considered 'next-gen'. |
I don't think it's perfect either, I would have liked 1:1 motion sensins, but it is functional despite it's lack of precision, which is why it is a hit with the non traditional gamer. So in that sense it's a next gen controller because it managed to break the barrier that have stopped non traditional gamers from gaming. |
I believe anyone who can come up with a 1:1 motion controller that works like it should, will win the next-next gen war. Simple as that. It will be HUGE with any FPS games and any swords/fight games. And can you imagine what it will do to puzzle/adventure games?
THAT... to me is the true next-gen, but I guess we have to wait for a few years for it.

The Tech has to start somewhere, by your logic no system that has ever been created has ever been next gen because they aren't as good as what could be from a system out five years from now. That makes no sense. The Wii controls are next gen because no controls have ever come close to what they are doing now. NExt-next gen controls will be next-next-gen controls when they improve upon what the Wii has done THIS gen.
