The concept of art incorporates a wide range of activities and expressions, some things are even up to the viewer to decide if they´re art or not.

I wouldn´t consider games as art, because games are, essencially, a form of entertainment that provides a challenge for the viewer. The interaction is different from other forms of art, like paiting, music, cinema, dance where we basically observe or appreciate with our senses. Games, unlike those, provide us with a challenge to be defeated.


I feel like this begs a question: can playing a game be an art form?

It´s up to each one to decide. Some games give strong arguments to that,  like Flower, Journey, ICO and Lost In Shadow. While they do bring some challenge, their aim seems to be evoke feelings on the player. And this is essentially what art does.
