It could have to do with 3D models. It seems as if your father doesn't play anything that is detailed. My mother is 44 and since I was young she'd play Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, and Pac Man. During the fifth generation she would play Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, but she didn't like Super Mario 64, because controlling the camera became too complicated for her. She has the most fun with 2D platforms it seems. The easier it is to pick up and play, the more she likes it. If she has to multi-task and control the camera she doesn't like it at all, and even says it makes her sick. The last game we played together was NSMBWii, and she had a blast with it and enjoyed the updated 2D graphics even, saying it was vibrant and colorful. I hadn't gotten Donkey Kong Country: Returns until after I left for college, but I'm sure if we were to play it she'd enjoy that as well.

You might be onto something here. The simplicity of the games and not specifically in the sense of how they play, but in there appearance. When I got into games at first they were a lot more simple to look at than they are today. Plus I reckon if not for his DS he might not have got into the 3DS

Though what really surprised me is he likes the 3D even I turned that of when I played mine!
