I think ms and sony looked at the attachment rates and that's why they went with 500gb. 20 games is way more than the normal user is ever going to buy. And do you really need to have 20 games installed at all times ?

Maybe I am abnormal then but I exceed both. And with digital games I don't want to be downloading a 30GB+ game every time I want to play it. PS+ alone this gen gave me a reason to upgrade my HDD twice. lol

99% of the vgchartz users are probably "abnormal" users. I have plenty of friends who probably would call themselves gamers but don't have more than 10 games and probably have never bought a game on xbox live or psn yet do even know what ps+ is. I even have a friend  who bought a xbox together with some friends and the only game they own is fifa xD People need to stop thinking that these consoles are designed after the needs of the typical vgchartz user.

These consoles were designed with all types of users in mind. The easy ability to swap out the PS4's internal HDD along with the coming X1's support for external usb hdd's is evidence of this as well as the acknowledgement that the shipped HDD's may be inadequate for most end user needs. Imo the future is digital and everyone will get used to downloading games and using LIve and PSN to purchase games.

PS+ is a requirement this gen for multi-player on the PS4 and with PS+ comes those free games each month and there will be number of those games that people will download and downloading 30gb+ games will soon eat up that HDD space along with the mandatory disk installs. Games residing on the HDD will become the norm and imo it will not be desirable to delete 30gb+ game downloads you may want to come back to.

Sony and MS will release consoles with higher capacity HDD's like they did this gen and with the easy ability to expand capacity it may not become an issue, but I think that 326GB (X1) and 405GB (PS4) will soon be eaten up this gen, even by the average user. I do have one friend though like you who seems to just play one game but it's Cod instead of Fifa! So he will properly never even care. lol

Further into the future services like Sony's Gaikai may help alleviate the need for so much on board storage. Time will tell!
