'Uncharted 2: Among Thieves'

for the Sony PlayStation 3 released in 2009.

Probably the best thing to come out of the 7th Generation, 'Uncharted 2: Among Thieves' was a sight to see. Polished until perfection, the entire game is a smooth, yet exciting ride. It features many different locales each equally beautiful and detailed. True love went into making this game. It's successor may be a tiny bit better looking, this game holds it's own and has obviously had more time to be perfected.

Of course it's not all about sight-seeing in 'Uncharted 2'. The game remains action packed, and contains many smart puzzles and challenging platforming aspects. The game has a good story and is quite light-hearted in it's dialogue, which is very refreshing. Drake is a likeable character, even moreso than in the first game and his helpers are all well written with fleshed out personalities. The game's antagonist is just enough of an a-hole to dislike him but not be frustrated by the character or for it to become cheesy.

Personally I do prefer the story of the third game, yet this game wins on gameplay merits. The story is about finding the Tree of Life containing the wish-fulfilling jewel called the Cintamani Stone. It kind of relies on a mystical or even magical aspect, which I thought was not truly necessary. Maybe that's why it took me a while before I actually beat the game. Nevertheless, the story is extremely entertaining still, and combined with the stellar gameplay, this game really deserves to be this high on the list.

#21 Hint:

Quite an original concept for a game, but the thing that immediately screams at you is the soundtrack, made by a (at the time) fairly popular punk-rock band.
