No indies cant but they are still showing more progress and omph than what ive seen from a good chunk of Nintys own 2d platformers. 3d mario seems to be the only thing they care about actually pushing and doing something cool with. Look at the recent 2d marios and tell me im wrong. DKCR is not that much different than past DKC games, besides graphics what did they really add? Cause i have that game and it aint that much different. At the very least indies are trying to add some different aesthetics and gameplay elements into the genre, what has 2d mario added? and dont say MP that has been done for years.

Yes, I can and will tell you you're wrong. 'Donkey Kong Country Returns', 'Super Mario 3D Land' and 'New Super Mario Bros. 2' are all games I've played extensively. They're better than previous games because they have better graphics, tighter controls, better level design, greater length, more diverse gameplay and level design, and better all round presentation. Now, what are you expecting from a modern platformer that you're not getting? What innovation are you expecting? Moreover, what innovation are you getting in FPS's, Open World, 3D Brawlers, Racing, or Sports Games that make them so much more viable and acceptable as "modern" games.

Your opinion is subjective. DKCReturns wa not better than DKC3, Mario 3d land was not better than Galaxy 2, and NSMB2 was not better than Wii or even close to being as good as 3 or World. better graphics, sure. tighter controls, nope not in the case of Mario its always had tight controls. level design, nope. Length? pretty sure Mario 3 is longer. Im not expecting anything...from Ninty. Little Big Planet brought us 4 player online AND offline in addition to an extensive level editing tool. Limbo had a different aesthic rarely seen in that genre, Braid added a sick reverse time element in addition to a great narrative with a fantastic ending. IMHO Ninty is just kinda been playing it safe at least with their bigger 2d titles and i dont blame them, people will buy them anyway so why exert yourself? I wouldnt.

I dont know why you brought up those other genres we are talking about 2d platformers here.
