A little note before reading: This is my first game review, so any criticism/suggestions, whether they are hard on me or not, are greatly appreciated.

I went to EB Games one day, back in 2007. I had some extra cash, and was wondering what game to get for my DS. I eventually ended up deciding on New Super Mario Bros. However, the people at the store also let me get a free game. That game ended up being Bomberman.

After playing New Super Mario Bros. for probably way longer than I should have, my brother and I decided to play the other game that we got. We popped it in, did the DS Download play, and the rest was history.

We couldn't get enough of the game. We played the multiplayer for many hours, and spread the game to our friends, which only further added to the fun. We eventually let our friend borrow the game, and he ended up losing it. That's how our experiences ended with it.

Okay, now that you have a history of my experiences with this game, it's now on to the review!

Gameplay:

This game has the same simple, yet addicting gameplay of the classic Bomberman games. The single player mode consists of areas where you have to kill the enemies, and then exit the stage. This mode has 100 levels, so it lasts a for a fair amount of time. While this is fairly fun, the real deal is the multiplayer. I can not express how much fun I had with this game's multiplayer. We would have 8 player (CPU included) matches, and just play them for way longer than we probably should have. There are quite a few modes too, including racing to the crown, claiming area, and of course the classic deathmatch, so it has quite a bit of variety. Even after you die, you can still use bombs to try to disrupt the other players, so you're not just sitting there doing nothing.

Music:

The music is fairly simple, yet catchy. The menu music was stored in my memory clearly for years, even without listening to it. The catchy battle music is of course a nice addition too. The sounds for the bombs are good enough too, and overall it is satisfying enough

Graphics:

This is a DS game, so the graphics aren't going to be amazing. However, they are very colourful, and you can definitely tell what everything is supposed to be. The game never suffers from slowdowns, even during the multiplayer mode (at least in my experiences), so that's a huge plus too.

Lasting appeal:

The single player mode should last a few hours if you're not a Bomberman master. The multiplayer mode is where the true focus of the game is, and its addicting gameplay can last for hundreds of hours. This is especially true if you have friends with a DS/3DS that are willing to play this with you, and if you can find 7 others, you're in for real fun!

Final Verdict:

Granted, I am affected heavily by nostalgia regarding this game. However, I believe that this game is a must own for any Bomberman fan, and anyone who enjoys playing games with their friends (or even people like me who almost never play multiplayer!) I wish that this game would have sold more than the 150,000 copies that it did, but oh well, nothing can be done about it now.

Score: 10/10
