No, the real alternative is that they wanted to focus on the West so MS couldn't get a lead there. MS is irrelevant in Japan so it won't matter when Sony launch the PS4 there.

WiiU sales are good at 570k this year, while Vita's are a problem at 1.01m...

3DS sales are at 4.16 million. Vita's sales are a problem for Sony. And my comparison to Wii U has to do with current sales rate.

Let me put it another way - the Wii U was selling at like 3,000 units a week for a significant period of time in Japan, and it's still at more than half of the Vita's sales.

And I'm sorry, but the argument that Sony did it so that they could "focus on the West" just doesn't add up. Beyond the fact that having "the lead" is completely irrelevant from a business standpoint, there's the fact that the PS4 is even launching in United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and India in 2013... and still, Japan isn't getting it until 2014. Are you telling me that Sony is worried about the Xbox One getting a lead in India and Saudi Arabia?
