2. Keep it real: Most family and friends would not probably donate if the donation hadn't been formalized. It's the way it works.

How much then of the 310 is from outside sources and not just your immediate family and friends? What is the real legit interest in the project outside of those who have an obligation to put their money towards it?

It's just to make a point of saying that you already have 1/3 of the money from investors because it's such a great idea but at the same time... this obviously includes a large portion of your own cash, unless you are not putting anything towards your own project money wise? See here is the double edged sword, do you claim that none of that 300 is yours which would mean that you don't actually think it's worth spending the money on yourself, or do say that it is from yourself which negates the impressive factor of already having 300dollars of investment. It might just have been an idea to not immediately drop all of the pre agreed family and friend donations on Day 1 for an unknown project, it looks fishy from the off.

You seem to assume that it is somehow important to us (my team) to show that the general public has an interest in the project. That's not the case at all; we could care less about general public's perception if funding were not an issue. We aren't trying to sell the design to anybody at the moment(we might patent it later though) and it is not a part of our grade at all to try to show that people care. You're reading too much into nothing. We're simply looking for funds to get the first prototype working as soon as we get back from the Christmas Break, it's as simple as that. Secondly, we have already spent some money out of our own pockets for previous related experiments (see the foam model, joint testing, etc.), and of course we believe in the project.

Moreover, there was no pre-agreement for donations as you seem to assume. As I already said, most of the people who have donated have done so because there's the Kickstarter and probably not the other way around. I'm getting tired of debating this non-issue so I'll leave you to your speculation; if you want to discuss a more relevant part of our project, I'd be up for that.
