Update - Speaking to SavyGamer, a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that the manufacturer no longer insists that developers release the Xbox Live versions of their games at the same time as other versions.

"We do not require exclusivity agreements. However, we do ask for day one parity with other console game platforms. In instances where games have signed a timed exclusive with another platform, we'll work with them on a case by case basis."

I am really tired so I may be reading this wrong, but I don't understand those two lines.

Microsoft no longer requires developers release Xbox version the same time as other versions.

Microsoft asks developers to release Xbox version the same time as other versions.

Is the difference because the word "requires" has changed to "asks"?  So they mandated it before; and now they just suggest it?

Really, I'm just tagging this thread for later but I may as well comment.  Off the top of my head, i can't think of the specific examples but I remember games coming to PS3 first and thus never being released on Xbox 360. The company made a stink about it, too.
