Que what? Do you honestly think we can treat more sea water in a year then what evaporates in a day???
About 3 billion gallons of water eveporate from the ocean every SECOND.

Not to mention that it's a closed cycle, the water doesn't disappear. And we can stop digging up salt from the ground that does end up in the ocean.

That comment reminds me of the one that some people had concerns about hydrogen fuel cell cars putting too much water vapor in the air. (It's actually less wator vapor then a gasoline car produces....)


Look, I don't know how terrible that is in the long term, but I do know that the exhaust pipes of those plants run several hundred meters into the sea and that the zone where they finish is like a desert.

Well that's what environmental regulations are for. Their main problems are:
- Burning fossil fuels to run them, solved with nuclear fission
- Sucking up wildlife in intake valves, better filter requirements
- Dumping contaminated brine back in the ocean. That's the concentrated left over of all the crap that's in the ocean already. Either dilute it with seawater before dispersing over a big area or harvest the salt from it and process the contaminents.

Ofcourse atm it's done the cheapest way that regulations allow, that's no different for anything.

Fracking is a far bigger problem atm, requiring huge amounts of fresh water which gets heavily contaminated. Instead of getting cleaned and put back into the fresh water cycle, it is either evaporated in pools, contaminating the ground and ground water or stored underground to get rid of it. 280 billion gallons of toxic waste water last year in the US alone. Canada is going all out for these damn oil sands too, waving water regulation laws in favor of the oil industry.
Nuclear fission can't come soon enough.
