I don't see how microtransactions and achievements are even comparable? Achievements are nothing but good, so of course Nintendo will be criticized for it. Microtransactions however, are mostly neutral or bad.

Who cares about achievements? Sure, I aimed a little joke at that soft spot, but this is a bigger issue than that.

Look at the X1's launch line-up. Don't all of Microsoft's first-party games contain microtransactions? Don't many of the third-party games as well? Sony, too, is getting in on this. I wouldn't be surprised to see microtransactions become ubiquitous in PS4 & X1 games.
