Why are some Nintendo fans so opposed to going third party?

I like you and your notion original poster! I want Nintendo to be third party because they make a lot of great software, but the hardware is lacking since the N64.

The GameCube was more powerful then the other 2.

That is all fine and Dandy. I use the N64 as an example as it was the last Nintendo console I really enjoyed playing. I have played a lot of consoles since and have decided that I will not buy their consoles for their games alone as it is not enough for me to be worth buying their hardware
