Those worried about unique hardware. Nintendo could easily push successful peripherals with their name brand.

Nintendo would be boss at being third party. Of course they can keep their dominant handheld market. Nintendo needs to strike a deal with Disney and put a Mario tv show on.

They would need to get a license to launch peripherals for them, though.

And, as Eurogamer has proved with the PS4+Vita vs WiiU+GamePad comparison, some peripherals must be planned during the design of a console to work as they should.

WiiU gamepad has not moved consoles and most people wish Ninty would release the console without it.  However the Wiimote and WiiFit could have easily been put on PS3 and 360.

If Ninty moved to third party in the home console market it is believable they could have some say in future hardware development.  Especially if they are offering to bring something like the Wiimote to the console.

I am sad that the hardcore Ninty fans are putting Ninty on the same shelf as Sega and Atari.   Nintendo would surely not fail like those companies did if they went third party.   Ninty would be a huge as a publisher/developer, their success would rival the likes of Take Two and Activision but would carry the prestige of studios like Naughty Dog.   It is sad that people believe the only reason ninty developers care about quality is because they are making console exclusives.  I think they care about quality because they care about quality.  There is no reason to believe they would be any different from Rock*.

The Wiimote and Balance Board used Blutooth to "talk" with the console. I think the PS3 had it (not sure) but the 360 didn't. That would mean that the wiimote could have been possible on MSoft's console.

And if you think Sony or MSoft would allow a third party, and former competitor, to take part into the development of its console besides the usual "is this enough RAM for you?" kind of feedback, then you're in for disappointment.

And people compare the situation with SEGA because before exiting the hardware market they also were very talented and made excellent games, and many thought they would become big players too once they become a third party. And look what happened.
