PS4 demand doesn't increase if there is less available than Xbox One. It only appears the PS4's demand is increasing. It is just that Xbox One demand, with more shipped, is decreasing at a faster pace than PS4 demand.

What you said is accurate also. It is common knowledge that people in general are lemmings. So, if everywhere they go the PS4 is out of stock, they believe that the PS4 is a more coveted item. Therefore they may move from a "might get one someday" category to "want one now to be part of the pack". The Wii had that happen with the chronic out of stock issues it had at its peak.
