Sadly this kind of shit is all they need to do. They only have to find that 1 person in a thousand or 10 thousand that thinks maybe it is real. (so 0.001% hit rate) Given they spam millions of these emails and text messages out their hit rate is likely to be high enough that they don't have to bother thinking up something more believable.
