Just this, HDTVs sold hundreds of millions of units in the last years and the by far most of them had "Full HD" displays, because "HD rdy" ones are hardly even in production anymore. Just by that it's plainly obvious that far more than 10% of HDTVs out there are native 1080p, I'd wager it's even the majority.

Now it is. But the adoptainrate was at its highest point in the period between 2008-2010 when people got rid of their CRT's. People bought the cheapest alternative en mass during that period in time. This was the era people went nuts over flatscreen tv's cause it was fashionable first and foremost. Anecdotally, you can just look around you and ask your own folks when they bought their flatscreen and what they payed for it (If you say HDTV they'll just look funny at you, so dont do that).
