Thats not a Germany exclusive thing. People from the UK do that too and many other countries.
I even knew a czech couple standing up at 9 AM to reserve a place on the beach.
Totally retarded. All just to lie in the sun for hours and get drunk. I would rather shoot myself than do that. My beaches must be relatively empty or I am not going to even bother to lie down there.
