Mario coming off of a pricecut and a bunch of new bundles failed to do anything, it's humiliated by Pikmin 3. I actually think that a Zelda would easily move more hardware (didn't Zelda: WW HD do more as well?), Metroid Prime could do the trick as well. You know why? People don't care about Mario enough to buy a console for him. Once they own the console, they'll pick his game up, sure. But at this point Nintendo is just throwing Mario games by the dozens and nobody cares anymore. How am I to be excited about the new Mario, when we already got like 6-7 Mario games during the last 12 months? On the other hand Zelda and Metroid are games that are worth picking a console up for.
I am personally waiting for a Metroid Prime (or at least Trilogy HD), a dark and gritty Zelda and X. No number of Mario games can influence my purchase. Maybe Mario Kart would be the only Mario game that I'm excited about. Once I get the Wii U I'll surely get 2D and 3D Marios down the line, but I won't even think about buying the console for them. That's not how they work, Nintendo should give him a bit of a rest after MK and SSB and focus on developing other franchises.
Though a price cut is key for me.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
