Multi colored sparkling?(Green red?) If yes probably dying console. If its more like snow (white-ish) then its most likely an HDMI problem.
Move around the HDMI cable when its plugged in and TV and PS3 are turned on. If nothing changes then its not the cable itself. It might be your TVs HDMI input (try to change that) or the PS3's output.
Try using different cables the composite ones or component/scart etc. If it vanishes its just an HDMI problem (some PS3s just get a broken HDMI port after some time but the rest still works)
