I would have said that this game was a Zelda/Final Fantasy/Pokemon mix maybe? While Dijin can be summoned like summons in an FF game, collecting them, and setting them up for battle kinda felt like Pokemon. Still those dungeons definatly have that Zelda/Nintendo Puzzle charm. I really loved this game and the sequel. Never played Dark Days, but it's on my TDL BTW, I've always loved these games because I feel the difficulty was spot on. I beat the boss of both games after draining my Dijin, using up all my mana, mana recovoring items, and healing items, and then finishing the 99,999 health boss with a basic attack which deals about 100 damage. LOL, both times, was a magical experience. |
I find the Djinn system to be a close relative to FFVI's Esper system, but I see where you're coming from with the Pokemon comparison.
When you have all the Djinn, the game can be easily won through decent strategic planning (and patience). No late-game grind required. No early-game grind required, either, come to think of it. Beating the game with low-level characters is quite doable. Heck, if there wasn't so much text, I'd feel compelled to do all-djinn speedruns of Golden Sun.
I love TLA as well (so challenging and rewarding, with an arguably better soundtrack), but I didn't love Dark Dawn. It isn't bad, but I consider it to be the weakest entry. I was probably disappointed at how easy it was compared to TLA. :/
