I think you should appreciate what COD has done, rather than scorn it. There's nothing unique in ANY of the AAA launch games.
When the launch lineup is so mediocre and lackluster (especially 1st party), one game has encouraged people to go and buy the console in millions. This is HUGE for the PS4 as getting an installed base is unquestionably important. And COD is doing that for the PS4, opening up the possibility for newer games to be developed and being bought on the system.
