PSN temporarly going down for a couple of hours for some, not all people, when 1 million people logged on for the first time, all in the same region, is very indicative of anything..
my day one update took me 2-3 minutes as well. after that i had a few problems logging into psn, but after a couple hours it seemed to clear up. not that it really mattered, as I was busy playing Killzone single player.
