The definition for a next gen console is one that uses "a next gen engine," which by your definition is an engine that shows "big" improvements? You have no right to call anything vague ever again after that. I'm asking for a concrete definition here. You're just throwing out terms even more founded entirely in opinion than anyone else here. What if I don't consider games on Unreal 4 to be a "big" improvement over Unreal 3? Is nothing next gen for me? Is the entire definition of next gen completely subjective? Your point is that a console is a next gen console when it supports enough supposed "next gen engines." Leaving aside your flimsy definition of a "next gen engine," my point was that you haven't specified how many of these engines a console must support in order to classify for next gen. If a console supports one, is it next gen? Two? Three? A hundred? Since you're so founded in concrete terms, give me a number. PS4 doesn't fully support Unreal 4. And it's really simple how a console can be "next gen" and not support specific engines. The term "next gen" doesn't have anything to do with graphical prowness. In fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with power at all. If you'll recall, the term "generation" simply refers to a group of things existing at around the same time. If you want to come up with another term that deals with graphical fidelity, do so, although it'll be just as full of holes as your defintion of next gen is now. However, it's really simple how something can be next gen: It's the next one. |
What the steaming f is vague about "So in this case, a next gen console is one that can play next gen engines at 1080p(can be scaled) at a minimum of 30fps, with next gen engines being ones that have volumetric lighting. Snap." Cant remember more than a post at a time or something because thats how your acting.
If you dont consider unreal 4 a big improvement over unreal 3 then your probably have no idea of the differences. Your argument is like getting a caveman and asking him the difference between a pile of steaming cow shit and the mona lisa, and when you get a bewildered look back you just jump in, flailing your arms declaring the argument defeated.
A console is a next gen console when it supports next gen engines. You didnt get the memo about how industry standards tend to mean that they all shoot for roughly the same hardware so if it can run unreal 4, it can probably also run cryengine 3 and the rest. With that link you didnt read the best part "Unreal Engine 4 will still be used to power games on both platforms, but developers won’t easily reach the quality levels promised by the original Unreal 4 demo two years ago." See the important word "easily". As we all know, the PS4 only revealed itself to have 8gb of ram on that very same day so we know that epic didnt factor that into the demo.
Your saying a next gen console doesnt have to be able to play next gen games. Say that again, to yourself, and see if you still believe it. Stop talking about generation with regard to biology and being the next one. If thats the case then holy shit whats the xbox as that just appeared out of the red, white and blue smoke of the usa and wasnt following dick.
