| ps4tw said: I just said didn't I. A next gen game is one that uses a next gen engine which is an engine that shows big improvements over whats already out, so like unreal 4 against unreal 3. If you dont know what the difference is between the two, well you know where google and wiki are. Metroid prime 3 looks likeit should be on the ps2 so yeah, its totally 6th gen. Now if youd been on the ball youd of mentioned the source engine as thats technically the same, but they do keep improving it with next gen features (havok) to keep it up to speed. Different engine doesnt mean different gen. Would I be bang on the money to say you dont understand game engines and the tech behind them? I didn't mention volume of engines. What, XB1 doesn't support AMD even though that's whats in it? I think youve lost your point because it aint making no sense no more. Considering we saw unreal 4 on the PS4, Im going to say it does fully support it, whereas the wiiu doesnt support it at all, and fully doesnt mean play on ultra. The wiiu doesnt support unreal 4 at all, or frostbite 3. So come on man, tell me how a console can be next gen but not support next gen engines, because im really wanting to see how you work that one out. |
The definition for a next gen console is one that uses "a next gen engine," which by your definition is an engine that shows "big" improvements? You have no right to call anything vague ever again after that.
I'm asking for a concrete definition here. You're just throwing out terms even more founded entirely in opinion than anyone else here. What if I don't consider games on Unreal 4 to be a "big" improvement over Unreal 3? Is nothing next gen for me? Is the entire definition of next gen completely subjective?
Your point is that a console is a next gen console when it supports enough supposed "next gen engines." Leaving aside your flimsy definition of a "next gen engine," my point was that you haven't specified how many of these engines a console must support in order to classify for next gen. If a console supports one, is it next gen? Two? Three? A hundred? Since you're so founded in concrete terms, give me a number.
PS4 doesn't fully support Unreal 4.
And it's really simple how a console can be "next gen" and not support specific engines. The term "next gen" doesn't have anything to do with graphical prowness. In fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with power at all. If you'll recall, the term "generation" simply refers to a group of things existing at around the same time. If you want to come up with another term that deals with graphical fidelity, do so, although it'll be just as full of holes as your defintion of next gen is now. However, it's really simple how something can be next gen: It's the next one.
