I agree with your point, but I'd go even further and say that even the NES/SMS to early 16 bit gap was bigger.  Maybe not regarding the TG16 launch games, but Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Space Harrier 2 on the Genesis were leaps and bounds above what we saw on the 8-bit consoles.

Don't get me wrong, guys; Ryse and Killzone SF are very impressive visually (finally got to play both first hand for quite a while now), but they're just not as big of a perceivable graphical leap over the best of the 7th gen as, say, Project Gotham Racing 3 on 360 was at launch over any 6th gen game.  The HD resolution difference alone was quite a jump.
