Man, since imo the best-looking Wii games make about 80% of PS3/360 games look like garbage, I guess this means I can expect the best-looking Wii U games to make about 99% of PS4/XO games look awful.

holy shit at this post O_O

Well look at Mario Galaxy. Now I'm not talking about technical stuff "the lighting isn't very complex" / "no anti-aliasing meh." The game just looks good. It runs very smoothly. Its visual design is excellent.

Maybe the best way to illustrate my opinion is to offer an example from the opposite end. Have you played Beyond: Two Souls? Well, all the HD resolution, anti-aliasing, motion-captured acting, and complex physics and lighting engines in the world didn't do that game a bit of good. It looks like garbage. It's plagued by ungodly amounts of pop-in, unloaded textures, and harsh framerate drops. This is a late-generation first-party effort, and on top of that this game's sole purpose was to look good (you had one job, David Cage).

Some hiccups are expected, of course, as no game is perfect. Every game is bound to have its fair share of silly glitches or mistakes. But most of the 7th-gen games I experienced were loaded with them. The best-looking Wii games run circles around the likes of Mass Effect and Skyrim.

People usually dismiss games like Mario Galaxy from discussions like this because it's "cartoony." They liken that to taking the easy way out, as though it's so easy to make such a cohesive visual design strung together by nearly flawless programming. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

I supose 3d world already do what you mentioned. mk8 and X will be even more amazing.

Man, 3D World and Wind Waker are just the start. We haven't seen many PS4/X1 games yet, but already 3D World makes almost every PS3 or 360 game I've played look... well, decidedly last-gen. Nintendo has outdone themselves.

One game that I will say looks better than any game I've ever seen (so you guys don't think I'm so full of shit) is Metal Gear Solid V. Kojima and his team sure make everyone who have been programming PS3/360 games for the past 8 years look like amateurs. MGSV on PS3 looks better than anything I've seen on next-gen. It's not out yet, so we'll see. But don't think I rank everything on PS3/360 below the Wii's best. Of course they have more power and a better resolution, so a skilled dev team putting enough time and effort into their game will make a game that technically simply can't be beaten by the Wii. And of course the quality of graphic design is largely subjective, though there is some consistency to such opinions.

mario world 3d is amazing but sonic generations and unleashed look much better graphically, its not even close.
