They won't.

Rol and I went around on this for quite a while in another. Nintendo won't put out a successor until 2017... 2016 at the earliest, but that is really stretching it.

Furthermore it will be more similar to Wii U in terms of power being above PS4 but not cutting edge of that time.

Nintendo may as not even bother if that's going to be their philosophy. No one is going to buy a PS4-four-years-late console.

It's one of the main things that's killing the Wii U ... who the hell wants another PS3/360 level system? Nobody except a small niche of Nintendo fans that have been waiting 6 years to play 7-8 different franchises in 720p.

100m+ people wanted to play SD games on Wii.

I'm pretty sure that if/when Nintendo builds the games, they will come.

I don't even think the SD/HD thing was a factor at all with the Wii. About 40-50 million people wanted to play Nintendo games on whatever system nintendo put out. About 60-50 million people wanted to play Wii Sports/Wii Fit games.

Mario sells to the normal Nintendo crowd. It does not sell to the huge number of brand new people who had never even bought a console before that bought the Wii.

I think its entirely possible a significant portion of the original Wii install base will never buy the Wii U (or the PS4/XBONE for that matter).

To people who care about multiplat or HD games, they never even considered Nintendo in the first place. Wii showed them Nintendo wasn't going to cater to them and despite Nintendo saying they were going to go after the core gamer, the Wii U shows yet again that NIntendo can't do what the PS4/XBONE crowd want.
