In terms of image quality if you have PS3 and HDMI you are set - cant actually get any better than that no matter how much you play 1's and 0's are still the same.
While PS3 upscales normal DVD this slightly improves the quality but the main improvement in quality of DVD playback is that PS3's Progressive scan and HDMI connections simply give a far better image than the old composit connections people use currently - progressive or HDMI connections get every last detail from the DVD to your HD-TV while composite connection degrades both the color and the resolution of playback.
Price wise blu-ray is actually the same as DVD - 300 on blu-ray costs the ssame as the Delux edition 2 disk dvd set. The Blu-ray has the same extras and movie all on one disk and in Hi definition for the same price. ! Given it's also cinema quality 1080p and has better sound the blu-ray disk is far better value for money than DVD.
