Its not specific to any platform, the demographic is changing, the best selling games on PC are shooters too. The online connectivity is everywhere, a good internet is a standard in any household. Naturally, shooters are a whole lot easier to pick up and play in a multiplayer environment, its a genre that's popular with any teen, any competitive players, any dude bros. You just can't beat fps as a genre, the developers are jumping into this wagon too.

Nah, PC's aren't dominated by FPS games.

Top 10 best selling PC games (That I know of!)
1) The Sims 2. - 20 million copies. - Simulation.
2) The Sims. - 16 Million copies. - Simulation.
3) Minecraft - 12.7 million copies. - Whatever you want it to be.
4) Diablo 3. 12+ million copies. - RPG/Hack and Slash.
5) Half Life 2. 12 million copies. - Shooter.
6) Battlefield 2. 11 million copies. - Shooter.
7) StarCraft+Brood Wars. 11 million copies. - Real Time Strategy.
8) The Sims 3. 10 million copies. - Simulation.
9) Half Life. - 9.3 million copies. - FPS.
10) Guild Wars. - 6.3 million copies. - RPG

RPG's/Hack and Slash and MMO's are what really dominates on the PC in terms of player counts, look no farther than Dota 2, League of Legends and World of Warcraft as prime examples.
