It isn't a single box made by Valve, it's an OS that accompanies many, MANY other Steam machines made by companies like Alienware, ASUS, Dell, HP, Samsung, etc. Hell, considering how Sony makes PCs, they might just make a Steam machine too (like how they made Xperia Play for Android). When a potential consumer looks at a Steam machine versus any other console, they see a machine that can run any computer program and never have to worry about backwards compatibility. They see a system that can play the same games that run on millions of PCs. And more importantly, the system can be cheap or expensive depending on the company or model. Valve isn't trying to make one omnipotent console like the others. They're making an entire OS and ecosystem. They're basically doing to the console market what Android has done to the smartphone market. |
Do you think the PS4-megalaunch will affect the Steam Machine launch?

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.
