I have a question

Are Forza 5 and GT6 the first games in their respective franchises to include this track?

Yes.

I'm not much of a racing game fan, but for it to take so many iterations of a game before finally bringing in a track as iconic as Mt Panorama is absolute weak sauce.

I don't know about Polyphony and Gran Turismo, but Turn 10 said that the reason they haven't included Mount Panorama until now is because the technology didn't exist to do the track justice. Now, between the extra power of the Xbox One and laser scanning, they were able to do Mount Panorma justice.

I don't know if I believe that...So they're saying that none of the other real world tracks were worthy of waiting for newer tech? I also don't buy that they needed the extra power to recreate accurate tracks. PD has been using LIDAR and surface scanning since they began making tracks for GT5 with out the PS3 holding them back. PD states a margin of error of "1 cm or less" for all of it's real world tracks.

Mt Panorama is one of the most demanding tracks in the world for both car and driver. To fully appreciate it you really need to drive on it in real life or even stand at the top of the mountain looking down the track. It has a topography from start to finish that places stresses on the cars at angles that just about no other track can.
