That takes in a false assumption that everyone who has a DOA or just bricked PS4 in general gives a poor review.  It isn't 400 out of 100k.  It's 400 out of 1200.  People are more likely to give a bad review if this happens, but not at a 100% rate.  Just as people do not give a 5/5 star review at a 100% rate.  Obviously the failure rate must be very high for Amazon to take action.  Not 0.4%.  But it also isn't 30% or whatever other people are saying either.  Amazon's rate though is clearly higher than elsewhere and they have one of if not the largest amount shipped to them by Sony (Maybe Walmart has more?  Not sure though).  Either way, we won't know for a while.  And I doubt Sony will ever report the numbers.  More likely a source at Amazon reports what they have been seeing on their end.

It makes you wonder if they may have been partly to blame, be it from shoddy delivery practices, or storage conditions in the warehouse.

That said though, amazon reviews are no real indicator of anything as nobody actually has solid numbers on how many were actually sold through amazon.

I doubt it.  Amazon shipping is pretty solid across the board, and they wouldn't let something like this big launch give them bad press if they could avoid it.  Plus they've been shipping PS3s and 360s forever with no issue along with everything else in the world they ship.  It's not like they are putting the systems in the boxes themselves, Sony already packs it for them.  More likely just whatever batch they got was not a good batch.  But you're right.  Even though most of the bad reviews were from actual people who did purchase the item, it doesn't matter at this point.  All I know is that it certainly isn't a 30% failure rate and it certainly isn't a 0.4% failure rate.  And the real rate is probably closer to the single digits when you include everywhere else.  Obviously there are tons of true stories from them being DOA or bricking with updates or other stuff not working when bought from other retail outlets, but those do seem rare at this point and I'm sure the XB1 will have the same issues.  Whether it has an issue like this Amazon one or not, well, they better hope they don't.

BOOM!  FACE KICK!
