Casuals- It seems handheld gaming is because its really simple easy and fun and that is what casuals want. They want to have something that is easy to pick up and play rather than sit down and play. They also don't play as much which handheld gaming is well adapted for. You could pick up a ds and a game and have fun right away rather than a home console you have to get used to the game and play more than a few minutes more like hrs. It is also a cheaper option than home consoles. Soon I could see the handhelds outselling consoles 2:1 do to more casuals joiningin on the fun. The only exception is the Wii because it provides many party games that have very little depth and are fun right away.
Traditional(hardcore)- Now the more traditional gamer plays games alot more and like depth in their games. THey usually don't like party games. Now most gamers buy a handheld for fun when they are away from their console but most of the time they prefer the home console. They also don't care on the price as much as casuals because gaming is a major hobby to them. I could see the hardcores turning more of half and half soon where they play games that are small ,and easy, but fun while also play games with depth, story , gameplay, and just epic. I think the best combo of a hardcore gamer who also likes some casual games is a hd console, Wii, and ds. The wii and ds have games that appeal to both demographs.
SO casual= handhelds while traditional=home consoles. Overall= Both in future Handhelds
