The only problem is that only about 50 million consoles have been sold this gen. Meaning even if every single one that bought a console so far owned a PS2, we'd still have another 70 million PS2 owners without a current gen system. You see 20 million going from PS2 to PS3... yes, that's big. But I still 50 million moving from the PS2 to the Wii. That's a lot more. Also, I think the 20 million (from PS2 to PS3) will be split between 360 and PS3, maybe more in favor of the PS3, but still split. This lessens the increase. Basically, the 2 HD consoles will fight themselves for a market that's not all that big to begin with, while the Wii will attract some from that market, and many more from the casual market, and even more from the non-casual market. All while selling their hardware for profit. And let's face it, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are only in this for money. And so far, only Nintendo has hit gold. |
Ah, true, very true. I still need to check out more people with just PS2s to see which way they're leaning so far. But I have a feeling with the split between the PS3 and 360 that it will be in great favor for the PS3. Just a feeling I'm getting based on all the people I still know with just PS2s...there is always differences using probability, but usually not that much.
But either way, all I was saying was I think that quote held some water as I know PS2 friends who want the PS3 over the Wii or 360...and I don't just have friends who love Sony either. Most of my friends are Anti-Sony in fact (most have at least one next-gen console). Most prefering the 360 or Wii over the PS3 and bashing it whenever they can...though as I mentioned, I've been seeing it a lot less as the PS3 has gained momentum. Still, I have quite a variety of friends. So there isn't a Sony bias in my group of friends. The PS2 ones just happen to prefer the PS3 as a whole.
Your statistics make a lot of sense though...thanks for the enlightenment.
