'STAR WARS: Rebel Assault II - The Hidden Empire'
for the Macintosh personal computer released in 1995.
My introduction to the 'Star Wars' universe. 'Rebel Assault II' was to me the perfect demonstration of the franchise. I was hooked immediately and today the franchise is one my most beloved franchises in all of media. In 1995, as one of the first batch of games (together with the #49 and #48 entries) we got for our first home computer, I was completely blown away by the awesomeness of 'Star Wars' and felt the depth of the franchise even within this small, simple and narrow game. I heard about 'Star Wars's existence, but never saw the movies. Naturally, the first thing I did when I had played this game for a while was doing just that and I can sincerely say that even today, I still think Episode IV is the greatest movie ever made.
The game itself, isn't the best game ever made, but a good one nonetheless. It was perfect for short periods of gaming. In fact, I'd be all for a remake or even just a simple port of this game, to a handheld console. The game offered great variety within it's fifteen stages. First person flying stages, third person flying stages, rail-shooting stages and a first-person shooting stage. Everything was there, and sometimes with a healthy dose of challenge.
Like most most games of this era, the game was arcade-style high-score based. Being as fast as possible and taking as little damage as possible while destroying as much as possible gave the player the best high-score. Contrary to my previous entries in the list like 'Step-On-It!' however, we never played this game for the high-score. It also came with a nice plot, that wasn't too complicated but still interesting enough for my young self. The plot was layed out through a series of live-action cutscenes. Which I thought, like the movies, were the most awesome thing I'd ever seen.

In just mere days the sequel for this game is released, which, to someone like me, is a huge deal.
