I wouldn't call it the greatest launch ever, but I am very happy with it so far. You have three big name shooters (Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Killzone) which will easily give you 20-30 hours in singleplayer between them along with tons and tons of multiplayer to keep you busy.
Aside from that you have Assassin's Creed 4 (which I hear is great, but I have not tried it yet) and Knack (I'll give it a chance even if the reviews are horrible). You also get a port of Injustice for a fighting game fix.
Let's not forget the two "free" titles with ps plus ... the surprise hit Resogun (amazing, and I would have gladly paid the $10 or whatever for it), and Contrast which I haven't tried yet.
So all of that is not bad with quite a few genres covered ... (shooter, adventure, open world adventure, fighting, scrolling shooter, platformer, sports). The only other big one that is missing would be a racing game (which was delayed).
Not bad imo. I would have liked to see more of the indie titles make it to launch, but I can wait.
I also still have my PS3 (which everyone should have hung on to since PS3 games are going to be dirt cheap going forward ... just like what happened to 90% of PS2 games).

but yeah, if you don't like sports titles it's *quite* understandable
