Resident Evil Revelations (3DS/2012)

At the beginning of 2012, it looked like a banner year for Resident Evil. A brand new mainline installment, a co-op multiplayer spin-off, and a handheld title that promised to return the series' roots. By the end of the year, it was a different story. Operation Raccon City was a bust and Resident Evil 6 was a massive letdown. Only Revelations saved 2012. Focusing on mood, ambiance, and the trappings of survival horror, Revelations delivered one of the best RE games of all time. The scares are frequent, the action intense, and the shooting mechanics superior. All in all, a healthy blend of the old guard (horror) and the new guard (action). Capcom, take note: this is how you build a Resident Evil game.
