Ridge Racer had ONE track....and they re-released it with R4 years later with higher FPS and better graphics.  I bought 'em both.  But, since I've never played Daytona (or any Saturn game) and have no idea what it looked like in person, I can't really argue.  Side by side videos of the original version of both would help, I guess.  I recall that, at the time, despite being hard to program for, the Saturn was considered superior.  I'm going off of memory, though.  I could be wrong.

It was actually one location, with several tracks depending on the difficulty you selected, but yeah, Daytona had 3 courses, one being an oval, Manx TT was the same. Back then, a handful of cars and tracks was all that was expected from a 3D racer. Gran Turismo was the real game changer in that regard.

Ridge Racer Revoultion wasn't too far behind with additional tracks, but yeah it was a straight arcade port. This is the big thing that IMO changed about gaming in the PS1/PS2 days. We've shifted from arcade games being what was aimed for in the home, to people wanting much bigger games for their money now.

Look at the thread that was trying to criticise the new Mario game for "only" being 8 hours long.

In the 90s, if it wasn't an RPG, 8 hours was a damn long game.

Sega Rally is my favourite 32bit racer (and still in my top 5 racers of all time) despite only have 4 short tracks, the Saturn port of that was absolutely stunning and I poured hours into that shaving milliseconds off my times. But yeah, if you look at the multi platform titles like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider etc. The PS1 versions are technically far better.
