I think you have a misunderstanding of the other side. I doubt that the other side is thinking "if we ban guns, criminals will disappear!" I think that the more restrictive gun laws are more for school shootings and the such. I think the other side would say that more restrictive gun laws would help keep guns out of the hands of mentally unstable individuals. It may sound like a stretch, but to say they are delusional for thinking that, you have to be pretty arrogant yourself.

No offense but even with more gun control someone that wants to go shoot up a school building can and will get there hands on a gun, no amount of gun laws will stop them from getting one to do something illegal.

Australia says hi, no mass shootings since the ban of automatics and stricter gun laws.
Sure criminals still have guns however with limited rounds. Usually here they are gangs that shoot each other so in general the public are pretty safe.

Gun control can be better regulated in Island nations, much harder to do in countries like the United States that has over 5 times the population with a borderline failed state to our south.

Please elaborate on this. You make it sound like all the US gun problems stem from Mexico! I guess you can apply that if gun control fails.
