Well there is the whole... codemasters sucks thing. It's a problem when your company peaked during the commodore 64 era.
"Vertical shooter" is supposed to mean like... Xevious or something. This game doesn't look like Xevious.
Vertical shooters is an old term for games that are like that. With the ship and you fly around kinda on rails blasting enemies until you reach the end of the screen.
Xevious, 1942 and stuff like that.
