There's a reason other than what you assume (DRM). Games are bigger than ever now, when it comes to data. And the data just can't be streamed fast enough from the BD. So, just like with PCs, consoles need to compensate for that shortcoming by installing key content on the HDD. You're right when you say Nintendo won't have a choice to do that too eventually. Most likely for their next console. They'll be faced with the same problems if they don't go digital only.

That's the lie they feed you to get to a DRM based system so they can prevent used sales.
I'd rather wait a few extra seconds on a damn cutscene than be forced to have a digital copy and no resell option.
Nintendo already has large games on BR discs, yet I have yet to see an issue in gameplay. Fact is, its an non-issue being made into one.

You're kidding, right? Most Nintendo games would fit on a DVD. Some third party games are bigger, like the example I gave, Lego City Undercover. And guess what? The loading times in that game are very long. But that's just one part of the problem. With the ever increasing data transfer rate of GPUs, the optical drive transfer rates have become a bottleneck. Installing content is a workaround to this limitation. Believe in your conspiracy theory as much as you want. That won't change the facts.

CODGHOSTS on all three next-gen are very comparable. Only a tiny difference in cutscenes. I'm sure watchdogs and ac4 are the same. LEGO City is likely due to it being a new game on a new system... not disc read issues.
Plus, a minor install of a GB or something to help with critical data is not the same thing as full game / digital equivalency.

Because mandatory installs mean full game / digital equivalency?
You're really overreacting here. Here, read this again:
"If you are playing a disc-based game, the system will begin caching the disc when you put it in the console and get ready to play. The game is saving part of itself to the system's hard drive. The amount of data that has to be saved before you can start will vary per title."
