That doesn't mean they're not leading happy lives now. There are plenty of things we would like to turn back time for, depending on how much depends on the severity of the situation. |
Its not scaremongering its describing the reality for what it is. In your case you personally know a lot of people with HIV who are leading a good life but what you've got to realise is there are millions of HIV/AIDS sufferers who aren't as fortunate as those you know for a plethora of reasons. Having no access to medicare, diagnosed at a more advanced stage, not having enough income to get treatment after their life and career have been devestated etc, not to mention psycological resillience differs from people to people. I doubt that even 80-90% of HIV/AIDS victims are leading a very happy life as we speak. You have a very narrow scope of what you perceive as the consequences of contracting AIDS.
Its not about fearmongering at all, its about informing and educating the public about the full consequences of contracting the disease, not downplaying it by what you've observed from a number of more fortunate victims. There are thousands of people still on the verge of death as we speak from AIDS.
